POSITION SUMMARY:
Borden Dairy is seeking a detail-orientated and safety-conscious professional to join our team as a Fleet Mechanic 1. In this dynamic role, you will maintain and repair mechanical transportation equipment to aid in the distribution of all company products in a safe manner.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform basic preventative maintenance inspections and services on mechanical transportation equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and company guidelines.
- Conduct basic troubleshooting and minor repairs on systems including electrical, powertrain, air and brake systems, suspension, and tires.
- Comply with all company safety policies and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Use all personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with OSHA regulations.
- Maintain and utilize personal tools necessary to perform job duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent strongly preferred.
- One-year certificate from a college or technical school, or one year of related experience/training in transportation equipment maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Class A or B CDL permit within 6 months of hire and a valid CDL and Medical Examiner’s Certificate before operating a commercial vehicle.
- Must have or be able to obtain EPA Clean Air Act Section 608 Type II and Section 609 MVAC certifications within 3 months.
- Must have or be able to obtain Brake Inspector Certification (FMCSA Part 396.25) and Annual Inspector Certification (FMCSA Part 396.19) within 3 months.
- Must maintain a valid forklift and/or pallet jack certification as required by location.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills required.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English; capable of performing basic math and accurately recording data.
- Ability and willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and various shifts as needed.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, reaching, climbing, pulling, and bending.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 lbs, with typical lifting requirements up to 50 lbs; occasionally required to lift and/or move items exceeding 100 lbs.
- Must be able to work in hot and cold environments, both indoors and outdoors, and on mechanical transportation equipment.
